Your Sustainability Strategic Plan
A Sustainability Plan is simply an agreed-upon strategic plan for sustaining your program past the funding period. For more information on strategic planning, refer to the TYP Strategic Planning Materials. Since there are many strategies that you may use to sustain your program, we suggest creating an action plan for each of these strategies to enhance the likelihood that your program will be sustained. You should include key stakeholders in creating your sustainability plan. The process will help you identify activities for each sustainability strategy, who is responsible for each activity, when each activity should be completed, and what your expected outcomes are. Remember that for your sustainability plan to be useful, it should continually be revised as you progress through your plan.
We have created a sustainability plan worksheet to help you develop your sustainability plan. This worksheet will help you to:
- List at least one activity related to each sustainability strategy (e.g., Partnership/Collaboration, Capacity Building, Communications/Marketing, Evaluation, Financing, Leadership for Change) that you or members of your team will do to work towards sustaining your program.
- Indicate the person who is responsible for carrying out each activity.
- Estimate a realistic target date for completing each activity. You can use these target dates to develop a timeline for sustainability.
- Indicate how you will know you have achieved each activity.
- Insert notes or points to keep in mind as you review activities over time.
