On behalf of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Education Development Center, Inc., provides training and technical assistance for OJJDP's Tribal Youth Program (TYP), which supports tribal efforts to prevent and control delinquency and improve tribal juvenile justice systems for American Indian/Alaska Native youth.

Useful Information for TYP Grantees

New Financial Guide for recipients of Department of Justice Grants and Cooperative Agreements

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer has revised the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Financial Guide for recipients of Department of Justice Grants and Cooperative Agreements. The new edition, dated August 2008, supersedes the previously issued Guide (dated December 2006).

The full content of the 2008 OJP Financial Guide and the Summary List of Updates can be accessed via the OJP Website at  http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/financialguide/index.htm or on the Financial Management home page on the OJP Portal.

Under "OJP Resources," scroll down to "Getting the Job Done," then click "Grants/Cooperative Agreements" to access the Financial Management home page. The Financial Guide will be listed under "Reference Sources and Materials."

Types of training and technical assistance available to TYP grantees and other federally recognized tribes include:

  • youth issues including gangs and youth leadership
  • access to a professional staff with expertise in developing cultural based approaches to prevention and intervention
  • capacity building
  • strategic planning
  • program implementation
  • evaluation
  • sustainability
  • enhancement of tribal court systems
  • consultation on opportunities, challenges, and progress through e-mails, phone calls, and site visits
  • peer-to-peer interface and training, including teleconferences and Web-based discussions

Tribal Youth Program Categories:

Category 1: Provide prevention services to impact risk factors for delinquency
Category 2: Provide interventions for court-involved tribal youth
Category 3: Improve the tribal juvenile justice system
Category 4: Provide alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs
Category 5: Provide mental health program services
