Learning a Native Language? Ojibway Programmer Has an App for That
In October 2011, computer programmer Derick Baxter founded Ogoki Learning Systems Inc., a software company that specializes in creating smartphone and tablet apps to promote the teaching of Native languages. Baxter originally created the Ojibway Language and People app to help people learn the ancestral language of his own Anishnaabe people. Since then, the app, which is available for free, has been downloaded 14,000 times, and Baxter is working with speakers of other native languages create their own learning tools.
